Prospero's books function as the source of his knowledge and power. His library of books on set would look like these – older, classic books, worn from use. The books are vital in understanding Prospero's conflict between knowledge and the divine.
The tempest itself is fundamental to setting the play. By portraying its waves with masked actors, I will show that the supernatural is subject to human influence and being controlled. This will give life to nature in the opening scene.
While not exactly the same, this two-tiered structure conveys the same thought I had in constructing a platform to function as the ship and Prospero's home. My structure would be less tree-like, and resemble more of a ship or home. The two levels would also be more clearly defined and separated into levels.
